Library
The Casino de Madrid´s magificent
Library dates from 1890; as well as that
of the Senate, is inspired in the Neogothic
style popular during the last years of
the nineteenth century when the building
was designed. Its construction was entrusted
to the studios of Bernardo Asins who made
the iron shelves and staircases to protect
the room against possible fires.
Running along the length of the north,
east and south walls are bookshelves as
well as a balcony from which the upper
shelves can be reached. This balcony is
accessed by way of a spiral staircase
tucked into the northeast corner of the
Library.
Currently, the Casino´s Library
has a collection of more than 40,000 volumes,
predominantly works from the 19th and
the beginning of the 20th century. The
entire collection has been computer catalogued.
